For the month of January, Mary Smith, of Leon Taylor Middle School was selected for the Family Matters Award! She was recognized during our School Board Meeting, where she was celebrated for her outstanding efforts. She was also awarded $100 from the Ingleside ISD Education Foundation.
Below is an excerpt from the nomination that was submitted on her behalf.
"Ms Smith is beyond deserving of this award. She embodies the definition of dedication, compassion, and integrity that EVERY teacher should display to students and their parents. My oldest has had Ms Smith for all 3 yrs of her Blaschke/Leon Taylor years. She struggles with her attention span and interest in subjects but has been able to continue with excellent grades in English/Writing because Ms Smith helps her to recognize her strengths and take responsibility for her struggles. She helps us both to stay on the tasks she has assigned and complete each six weeks with a “you got this” and “never quit” attitude. Her classroom is incredibly inviting and sweet, displaying characters that will bring a smile to any students face, whether they are the popular kids, or the anime loving introverts like my daughter is. This year she has taken on the task of hosting the Junior High UIL competition. My overly ambitious 6th grader has signed up for 4 events and Ms Smith is quick to answer all my questions, direct me to the staff member who is leading each specific event team, and has been uploading reviews and practices for all the children, this even while we were all on vacation and on top of keeping up with all her classes. She is a jewel in our district and we hope she is with us for many more years to come!"
We encourage you that if you witness an employee who goes above and beyond and demonstrates actions or qualities that are worthy of celebrating, to tell their story and help us recognize them! The nomination form is located on the district website at www.inglesideisd.org, under the 'About Us' section of the Menu.
Congratulations, Mrs Smith! We're so happy you're a part of the Family at IISD.
